Cycloplegia

Cycloplegia is a condition where the eye's ability to focus is temporarily paralyzed. This occurs when certain eye drops, called cycloplegic agents, are used to relax the eye's muscle responsible for adjusting focus, making it easier for eye care professionals to examine the inside of the eye or determine refractive errors like nearsightedness or farsightedness. The paralysis prevents the eye from changing focus during the exam, providing a clear view of the eye's structures. This effect usually lasts for a few hours and is safe when supervised by an eye care professional.
