Cortical Blindness
Cortical blindness is a vision impairment caused by damage to the brain's visual processing areas, particularly in the occipital lobe. Unlike problems with the eyes themselves, this condition arises from issues in the brain that prevent it from interpreting visual information, even if the eyes are healthy. Individuals with cortical blindness may see only shadows or have no vision at all. They may not be aware of their visual surroundings, making it challenging to recognize objects or faces. Treatment focuses on rehabilitation and adapting to the condition, as vision may not fully recover.
