Core-collapse refers to a process that occurs in massive stars when they exhaust their nuclear fuel. As the star runs out of energy to support itself against gravitational forces, its core collapses under immense pressure, causing temperatures and densities to rise dramatically. Eventually, this triggers a powerful explosion called a supernova, dispersing the outer layers into space while leaving behind a dense remnant, such as a neutron star or black hole.
