Constituent Assembly of India
The Constituent Assembly of India was a body formed in 1946 to draft the country's new constitution after independence. Comprising elected representatives and appointed members, it served as the authoritative authority to shape India's legal and political framework. Over nearly three years, it debated and finalized provisions on rights, governance, and structure of the nation. The assembly officially adopted India's Constitution on November 26, 1949, which came into effect on January 26, 1950. It essentially laid the foundation for India’s democratic governance, ensuring the rule of law, fundamental rights, and a republican system.
