Concertación coalition

The Concertación coalition was a political alliance in Chile formed in the late 1980s to oppose the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. Comprising various leftist and centrist parties, it successfully united to promote democracy and human rights. After winning the 1989 elections, the coalition governed Chile for over two decades, implementing significant social and economic reforms. Concertación aimed to address issues like inequality and education while fostering democratic institutions. Its legacy is complex, marked by both achievements and criticisms regarding neoliberal policies and social disparities that persisted even after its rule ended in 2010.
