Cobell v. Salazar
Cobell v. Salazar was a class-action lawsuit filed by Native American tribes and individuals against the U.S. government, alleging mismanagement of trust funds held for Native Americans' land and resources. The government managed these funds and assets but was accused of failing to account accurately, misusing or mismanaging the money, and neglecting fiduciary responsibilities. The case, settled in 2009, resulted in a $3.4 billion agreement to provide compensation and implement reforms to improve the management and transparency of the trust accounts for Native Americans.
