Coal and Steel Community
The Coal and Steel Community, officially known as the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), was established in 1951 as a regional organization to unify and regulate the coal and steel industries of Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and West Germany. Its primary goal was to foster economic collaboration, prevent wars in Europe by tying economies together, and promote peace after World War II. The ECSC laid the groundwork for deeper European integration, eventually leading to the creation of the European Union, by demonstrating the benefits of cooperation in key industries essential for economic growth.
