Cherenkov Detector

A Cherenkov detector is a scientific instrument used to detect charged particles, such as electrons, moving faster than the speed of light in a specific medium, like water or glass. When these particles travel through the medium, they cause a type of light called Cherenkov radiation, which appears as a blue glow. This effect occurs because the particle disrupts the electromagnetic field of the medium, producing a shockwave of light. Cherenkov detectors are valuable in particle physics and astrophysics for studying high-energy particles and cosmic events.
