Charles-François de Cisternay du Fay was an 18th-century French scientist known for his work in electricity. He is recognized for distinguishing between two types of electrical charge, which he called "vitreous" and "resinous," corresponding to what we now understand as positive and negative charges. His experiments laid the groundwork for future studies in electrostatics. Du Fay was also a member of the French Academy of Sciences, where he contributed to advancing the understanding of electrical phenomena during a time of great curiosity and discovery in science.
