Chain Reaction

A chain reaction in the context of nuclear reactions occurs when the products of a nuclear event (like the splitting of an atom's nucleus) trigger additional reactions. In nuclear fission, one atom breaks apart and releases energy along with neutrons. These released neutrons can then interact with nearby atoms, causing them to split as well. This process can continue rapidly, leading to a massive release of energy, as seen in atomic bombs or nuclear reactors. Effective control of this reaction is essential in reactors to produce energy safely and sustainably.
