CFU-GM (colony-forming unit-granulocyte/macrophage)
CFU-GM, or colony-forming unit-granulocyte/macrophage, is a type of stem cell in the bone marrow that has the potential to develop into two important types of blood cells: granulocytes and macrophages. Granulocytes are a part of the immune system, helping to fight infections, while macrophages help to engulf and digest foreign substances and dead cells. Essentially, CFU-GM serves as a precursor in the blood cell production process, playing a crucial role in maintaining the body’s defense against pathogens and supporting overall immune health.
