cervical dysplasia

Cervical dysplasia is a condition where abnormal cells develop on the surface of the cervix, the lower part of the uterus that connects to the vagina. This change is usually caused by an infection with human papillomavirus (HPV). While dysplasia itself isn’t cancer, it can sometimes progress to cervical cancer if left untreated. It’s often detected through routine Pap smear tests, which examine cervical cells for abnormalities. Depending on the severity, treatment may involve close monitoring or removal of abnormal tissue to prevent potential progression to cancer.
