Centre Party (Germany)

The Centre Party (Zentrum) in Germany was a political party founded in the 19th century, primarily representing Catholic interests. It played a significant role in German politics, especially during the Weimar Republic (1919-1933). The party aimed to balance the interests of Catholics with those of a diverse society in a mostly Protestant country. It opposed the rise of totalitarian regimes and sought to promote democracy and social justice. Though it dissolved in the 1930s under Nazi pressure, its legacy influenced subsequent Christian democratic movements in Germany, notably the Christian Democratic Union (CDU).
