Carter G. Woodson

Carter G. Woodson was an influential African American historian, author, and educator born in 1875. Often called the "Father of Black History," he dedicated his life to highlighting the achievements and history of Black people, which were often ignored or misrepresented in mainstream history. In 1926, he founded Negro History Week, later expanded to Black History Month, to promote awareness and celebration of Black contributions. Woodson's work emphasized the importance of studying Black history to foster understanding and equality, making him a key figure in the civil rights movement and African American cultural identity.
