Carcinoid tumor

A carcinoid tumor is a type of slow-growing cancer that usually develops in the gastrointestinal tract, such as the intestines, or the lungs. These tumors originate from neuroendocrine cells, which produce hormones. Many carcinoid tumors don't cause symptoms in the early stages, but as they grow, they can lead to issues like abdominal pain or flushing of the skin. In some cases, they may release hormones into the bloodstream, causing a condition called carcinoid syndrome. Diagnosis often involves imaging tests and blood work. Treatment typically includes surgery, medication, or targeted therapies.
