Calendar History

Calendar history refers to the development and evolution of systems used to track time, particularly days, months, and years. Initially based on lunar cycles, early calendars like the Babylonian and Egyptian systems were aligned with agricultural seasons. The Julian calendar, introduced by Julius Caesar in 46 BC, reformed timekeeping by standardizing days and adding leap years. This was later refined into the Gregorian calendar, established by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582, which corrected discrepancies in the Julian system. Today, the Gregorian calendar is the most widely used worldwide, helping societies organize events, plan activities, and celebrate various occasions.
