Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia

Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) is a serious lung condition that primarily affects premature infants who need assistance with breathing. It occurs when their lungs are damaged, often due to mechanical ventilation and oxygen use after birth. BPD can lead to inflammation and scarring in the lungs, making it harder for babies to get enough oxygen. Symptoms include difficulty breathing and an increased risk of respiratory infections. Treatment may involve oxygen therapy, medications, and supportive care to help the infant breathe better and promote lung growth. Many children outgrow BPD, but some may experience long-term respiratory issues.
