Bronchiectasis

Bronchiectasis is a condition where the airways in the lungs become enlarged and damaged over time. This causes mucus to build up, leading to frequent infections, ongoing cough, and sometimes difficulty breathing. The damage often results from infections, inflammation, or other lung conditions, making it harder for the lungs to clear mucus effectively. Symptoms typically include a persistent cough with sputum, shortness of breath, and chest discomfort. Treatment aims to control infections, improve mucus clearance, and prevent further lung damage, often involving medications, physiotherapy, and in some cases, surgery.
