Birth Control Pill

The birth control pill is a daily medication taken by women to prevent pregnancy. It contains hormones, usually a combination of estrogen and progestin, which regulate the menstrual cycle and inhibit ovulation. By preventing the release of an egg from the ovaries, the pill reduces the chances of sperm fertilizing an egg. Additionally, it thickens cervical mucus to block sperm and thins the uterine lining to prevent implantation. When taken consistently and as prescribed, the pill is highly effective in preventing pregnancy and can also offer other health benefits, such as regulating periods and reducing menstrual cramps.
