Biological Safety Level

Biological Safety Levels (BSLs) are classifications used to determine the safety precautions necessary when working with different types of biological agents, such as bacteria or viruses. There are four levels, ranging from BSL-1, which deals with minimal risk organisms that pose little threat to humans, to BSL-4, reserved for highly dangerous agents that pose serious threats to life and require strict containment measures. Each level specifies the safety equipment, procedures, and facility design needed to protect both people and the environment from potential hazards.
