Belgian federalism

Belgian federalism is a political system that divides power between the national government and regional governments, reflecting the country’s linguistic and cultural diversity. Belgium has three main regions: Flanders (Dutch-speaking), Wallonia (French-speaking), and Brussels (bilingual). Additionally, there are three communities based on language: Flemish, French, and German. This structure allows regions to govern local matters like education and transportation, while the federal government handles broader issues like defense and foreign policy. This system aims to accommodate the unique identities of its diverse population and reduce conflicts between language groups.
