Battle of the Coral Sea

The Battle of the Coral Sea, fought from May 4 to 8, 1942, during World War II, was a significant naval engagement between the United States and Japan. It was the first major battle where aircraft carriers played a central role, with each side trying to prevent the other from using the sea for troop movements. Although the battle ended in a tactical victory for Japan, it halted their advance toward Australia and marked a strategic turning point. The Allied forces demonstrated the effectiveness of carrier-based aviation, setting the stage for future battles in the Pacific theater.
