Battle of Seven Pines

The Battle of Seven Pines, fought on May 31 – June 1, 1862, during the American Civil War, was a significant clash near Richmond, Virginia. Union forces aimed to weaken Confederate defenses and push toward the Confederate capital. Confederate soldiers successfully repelled Union attacks, but the battle caused heavy casualties on both sides. Notably, Confederate General Joseph Johnston was wounded, leading to leadership changes. The battle was tactically indecisive but strategically important, as it set the stage for the nearby Seven Days Battles, which eventually pushed Union forces back from Richmond.
