
Battle of Lützen
The Battle of Lützen took place on November 16, 1632, during the Thirty Years’ War, a conflict in Europe mainly over religious and political power. Protestant Swedish and German armies faced the Catholic Holy Roman Empire’s forces. Despite being outnumbered, the Protestants initially gained an advantage, but the battle turned deadly when Swedish King Gustavus Adolphus was killed. The fighting ended with a Catholic victory, but both sides suffered heavy losses. The battle showed the fierce intensity of the war and significantly impacted the ongoing struggle for control in Central Europe.
