Battle of Borodino
The Battle of Borodino, fought on September 7, 1812, during Napoleon's invasion of Russia, was one of the largest and bloodiest single-day conflicts of the Napoleonic Wars. French forces faced the Russian army near Borodino, west of Moscow. Despite heavy casualties on both sides, the battle ended without a clear victor, with the Russians retreating gradually. Although Napoleon claimed victory, the Russian army's strategic withdrawal allowed them to preserve their forces and prevent Napoleon from capturing Moscow, ultimately contributing to the French campaign's failure.
