Battle of Baltimore
The Battle of Baltimore took place during the War of 1812, specifically from September 13 to 14, 1814. After the British captured Washington, D.C., they targeted Baltimore, a key port city. The battle featured a fierce British naval bombardment of Fort McHenry, which defended the harbor. Despite intense attacks, the fort's defenders held firm, inspiring Francis Scott Key to write "The Star-Spangled Banner" as he watched the flag still flying after the bombardment. The British eventually withdrew, securing a significant American victory that boosted morale and contributed to the eventual peace treaty ending the war.
