AXAF (Advanced X-ray Astrophysics Facility)

The Advanced X-ray Astrophysics Facility (AXAF) was a NASA space telescope designed to study X-rays emitted by high-energy objects in the universe, such as black holes, neutron stars, and supernovae. Launched in 1999 and renamed Chandra X-ray Observatory, it helps scientists explore the cosmos by detecting X-ray radiation that is absorbed by Earth’s atmosphere, making such observations impossible from the ground. Chandra's advanced instruments provide detailed images and spectra, allowing researchers to investigate the structure and evolution of galaxies, stellar formation, and the behavior of matter in extreme conditions.
