Autonomic functions

Autonomic functions refer to the body's automatic processes that regulate essential life activities without conscious effort. These include controlling heart rate, digestion, breathing, and blood pressure. The autonomic nervous system, which operates below the level of awareness, manages these functions by responding to internal and external stimuli. It has two main branches: the sympathetic system, which prepares the body for action (fight or flight), and the parasympathetic system, which promotes rest and relaxation (rest and digest). Together, they maintain balance and ensure our bodies operate efficiently.
