Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR)
Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) is a test that evaluates the brain's response to sound. It measures the electrical activity in the auditory pathway from the inner ear through the brainstem when a series of sound clicks or tones are played. This test is used to assess hearing ability, particularly in newborns and individuals who may not communicate well. By placing electrodes on the scalp, clinicians can detect how the brain processes these sounds, helping to identify hearing issues or auditory nerve problems. ABR is non-invasive and typically takes about 30 minutes to complete.
