Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission (ABCC)
The Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission (ABCC) was established in 1946 by the United States to study the health effects of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II. Its primary purpose was to gather data on the long-term impacts of radiation exposure on survivors, including both physical and psychological effects. Through its research, the ABCC aimed to improve medical knowledge and treatment for radiation-related illnesses, helping to inform public health policies and strategies for future nuclear incidents. The commission later evolved into the Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF), continuing its important work in this field.
