Atherectomy
Atherectomy is a medical procedure used to remove plaque, a buildup of fatty deposits, from the inside of arteries. This buildup can restrict blood flow, leading to heart disease or other complications. During the procedure, a thin, tube-like instrument is inserted into the affected artery. This instrument has a special tip that either shaves off the plaque or grinds it into tiny pieces. By clearing the artery, atherectomy helps improve blood circulation, which can relieve symptoms like chest pain and reduce the risk of heart attacks. It is often performed alongside other treatments, such as balloon angioplasty or stenting.
