artificial retina

An artificial retina is a medical device designed to restore vision for people with certain types of retinal diseases, like retinitis pigmentosa or age-related macular degeneration. It often consists of a miniature camera mounted on glasses that captures images and sends the information to an implanted chip in the eye. This chip stimulates the remaining healthy cells of the retina, helping the brain perceive images. While it doesn’t restore normal vision, it can provide a sense of light and shape, improving the user’s ability to navigate their environment and regain some independence.
