Artemis
Artemis is a NASA-led international program aimed at returning humans to the Moon, particularly targeting the lunar South Pole, by the mid-2020s. It aims to land the first woman and the next man on the Moon, fostering sustainable exploration. The program also emphasizes science and technology development and serves as a stepping stone for future human missions to Mars. Artemis includes multiple missions, utilizing the Space Launch System rocket, the Orion spacecraft, and the Lunar Gateway—a space station orbiting the Moon. The initiative is named after the Greek goddess of the Moon and sister of Apollo, highlighting its connection to the earlier Apollo program.
