Arlington House (Robert E. Lee Memorial)
Arlington House, also known as the Robert E. Lee Memorial, is a historic mansion located in Arlington, Virginia, overlooking the Potomac River and Washington, D.C. Built in the early 19th century, it was the home of George Washington Parke Custis, the step-grandson of George Washington, and later became associated with General Robert E. Lee, who married Custis's daughter. During the Civil War, the property was confiscated by the Union and turned into Arlington National Cemetery. Today, it serves as a museum, highlighting the history of the Lee family and the broader themes of the Civil War and its aftermath.
