
George Washington Parke Custis
George Washington Parke Custis was an American heir, historian, and writer born in 1781. He was the grandson of Martha Washington and adopted son of George Washington, making him closely connected to the founding father. Custis played a key role in preserving Washington’s legacy and mansion, Mount Vernon. He was also a prominent figure in Virginia society and contributed to the arts and history through his writings. Custis founded Arlington House, which later became Arlington National Cemetery. His life bridged the Revolutionary era and early American history, highlighting his influence in shaping the nation’s heritage.
