ApoE4

ApoE4 is a variant of the apolipoprotein E gene, which plays a role in lipid metabolism and helps transport cholesterol in the blood. This specific variant is associated with an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. People with one or two copies of the ApoE4 gene have a higher likelihood of cognitive decline compared to those without it. However, having the ApoE4 variant does not guarantee the onset of Alzheimer's; it simply raises the risk, indicating the importance of both genetic and environmental factors in brain health.
