Antigen Test
An antigen test is a medical test used to detect specific proteins (antigens) from a virus, such as the one that causes COVID-19. Instead of looking for the virus’s genetic material, like PCR tests do, antigen tests assess the presence of these proteins, making them faster and easier to perform. Results can often be returned in minutes, helping identify active infections quickly. However, antigen tests may be less sensitive than traditional methods, meaning there’s a higher chance of false negatives, especially in people without symptoms.
