Ankle Fusion

Ankle fusion, or ankle arthrodesis, is a surgical procedure that permanently connects the ankle bones to eliminate pain and improve stability. It is often recommended for individuals with severe ankle arthritis or damage that hasn't responded to other treatments. During the surgery, the surgeon removes damaged cartilage and realigns the bones, then uses screws or plates to hold them together as they heal. This process creates a single, solid bone, which reduces movement at the joint but can significantly relieve pain and restore function for daily activities. Recovery typically involves rest and rehabilitation for optimal results.
