Anglo-American Treaty of 1842

The Anglo-American Treaty of 1842, also known as the Webster-Ashburton Treaty, resolved border disputes between the United States and Britain, particularly over territories in the northeastern U.S. and Canada. Negotiated by U.S. Secretary of State Daniel Webster and British diplomat Lord Ashburton, the treaty established a clearer boundary between Maine and New Brunswick, settled issues regarding the Oregon Territory, and enhanced cooperation on issues like the fight against the slave trade. This agreement improved U.S.-British relations and helped prevent potential conflicts over land in North America.
