American Gut Project

The American Gut Project is a large-scale scientific study that collects and analyzes the bacteria and other microbes living in people's bodies, especially in the gut. By examining these microorganisms, researchers aim to understand how they influence health, digestion, mood, and diseases. Participants send in samples, usually of stool, which are then scientifically examined to identify the diverse communities of microbes they contain. This project helps build a broader understanding of the human microbiome—our body's tiny ecosystems—and how our lifestyle choices impact overall health and well-being.
