Ambrose Bierce

Ambrose Bierce was an American writer, journalist, and humorist known for his witty and often satirical style. Born in 1842, he gained fame for his short stories, particularly "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge," and his sharp, cynical dictionary, "The Devil's Dictionary," which offered humorous definitions of words and social norms. Bierce served as a Union soldier during the Civil War, which influenced much of his writing. His work often explored themes of death, war, and the darker aspects of human nature. Bierce disappeared in 1913 while traveling in Mexico, leaving his fate a mystery.
