Almohad movement

The Almohad movement was a 12th-century Islamic reform and empire-building movement originating in North Africa. Founder Ibn Tumart emphasized a strict, puritanical interpretation of Islam, advocating for moral discipline and unity. The movement grew rapidly, uniting various tribes and regions, eventually establishing a powerful empire that controlled much of North Africa and Spain during the 12th and 13th centuries. The Almohads challenged existing religious and political structures, promoting a return to what they saw as authentic Islam.
