Aga Khan IV, born Karim al-Husayni in 1936, is the 49th Imam of the Nizari Ismaili branch of Shia Islam. He became Imam in 1957, following his grandfather's passing. He is known for his efforts in promoting economic development, education, and health within the Ismaili community and beyond, founding the Aga Khan Development Network, which focuses on improving living conditions, especially in impoverished regions. He is also recognized for his advocacy of pluralism and cultural dialogue, contributing to global understanding across diverse societies.
