African Trypanosomiasis
African Trypanosomiasis, also known as sleeping sickness, is a tropical disease caused by parasites transmitted through tsetse flies. It primarily affects rural areas in sub-Saharan Africa, where these flies thrive. The disease can cause fever, headaches, and neurological issues, leading to severe complications if untreated. There are two forms of the disease, depending on the parasite species. Controlling the disease involves monitoring fly populations, treating infected individuals, and improving healthcare access in affected regions. Due to geographic and socioeconomic factors, it remains a significant public health challenge in many African countries.
