Adjustment Disorders in Veterans
Adjustment disorders in veterans are emotional and behavioral responses to significant stressors, such as returning home from military service, trauma experienced during deployment, or changes in lifestyle. These responses can manifest as anxiety, depression, or difficulties in relationships and daily functioning. Unlike post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), adjustment disorders arise from specific life events rather than trauma per se. Symptoms typically develop within three months of the stressor and can be temporary, resolving as the individual adapts. However, if left unaddressed, these challenges may lead to more serious mental health issues. Seeking support is essential for recovery.
