Achondroplasia
Achondroplasia is a genetic condition that causes your bones to develop abnormally, leading to shorter stature with disproportionately large heads and shorter limbs. It results from a mutation in a specific gene that influences bone growth, particularly in the long bones like arms and legs. People with achondroplasia typically have normal intelligence and life expectancy but may experience health issues such as breathing problems or spinal compression. It is usually inherited, but can also occur as a new mutation. Treatment focuses on managing symptoms and ensuring proper growth and development.
