2002 Agreement
The 2002 Agreement, formally known as the "Agreed Framework," was a diplomatic effort between the United States and North Korea aimed at stopping North Korea's nuclear weapons development. It involved North Korea agreeing to freeze its nuclear program in exchange for economic aid, including fuel and food, and the construction of two light-water nuclear reactors for peaceful energy use. The agreement sought to promote peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula, but implementation faced challenges, and ultimately, it was not fully successful, with tensions persisting in subsequent years over North Korea's nuclear ambitions.
