Chronic Granulomatous Disease (CGD) is a genetic condition that affects the immune system, making it hard for the body to fight certain infections. People with CGD have immune cells that can’t easily kill some bacteria and fungi. This leads to recurrent infections, particularly from specific germs like catalase-positive bacteria and some fungi. The immune system tries to contain these infections, forming small clusters of immune cells called granulomas, which can cause inflammation and damage to tissues. Treatment often involves antibiotics and sometimes interferon to help boost the immune response. Regular monitoring is essential for managing the condition.
