Zygomycetes

Zygomycetes, also known as zygomycetes fungi, are a class of fungi characterized by their rapid growth and the formation of a special reproductive structure called a zygospore. They often grow on decaying organic matter, like bread or fruit, and sometimes on soil or plants. These fungi play an important role in breaking down and recycling organic material in nature. Some species can cause spoilage in food or infections in humans with weakened immune systems. They reproduce sexually by fusing specialized structures to form resistant zygospores, which can survive harsh conditions until they find a suitable environment to grow again.
