ZPD

ZPD, or Zone of Proximal Development, is a concept from educational psychology describing the gap between what a learner can do independently and what they can achieve with guidance or collaboration. It highlights the potential for growth when supported by a more knowledgeable person, like a teacher or peer. Essentially, it’s the space where effective learning occurs—challenging enough to promote development but still achievable with assistance. Recognizing the ZPD helps tailor teaching to help learners progress from their current abilities to higher levels of understanding.
